Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium on Friday evening as Steve Bruce remained unbeaten at the helm of the West Midlands outfit.

Steve Bruce spoke at large in his press conference about the shock start for Gabriel Agbonlahor and he claimed that the forward had been put in a bad light over the past eighteen months at Villa Park.

I think it was important that we rewarded him. He has been made to be the bad guy over the last 18 months

The forward has lost six kg in the past few weeks.

I said to him ‘get yourself in some reasonable shape

Chris Hughton confirmed that his assistant manager Colin Calderwood had left the club to join as assistant manager at Aston Villa.

My understanding is that a deal has been done and that he is free to join Villa whenever he can
