# Aston Villa enquire about James McCarthy

As per a report from [Simon Jones in The Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4097484/Everton-transfer-news-James-McCarthy-wanted-West-Brom-Aston-Villa.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490), Aston Villa have enquired about the availability of Everton midfielder James McCarthy as it seems like he’s about to be pushed down the pecking order when Morgan Schneiderlin arrives at Goodison Park.

West Brom have also enquired about the 26-year-old and he’s likely to want to stay in the Premier League if he does leave the Toffees, which puts the Baggies in a much stronger position than Steve Bruce’s side.

It looks like Steve Bruce is ready to make a few additions to his squad with Henri Lansbury and Jordan Rhodes seemingly his biggest targets but completing a deal to sign McCarthy would be a huge boost as Villa look to secure themselves a place in the playoffs.

However, it’s highly unlikely that the Irish international would be willing to drop down a division, especially as he could secure a move to another top-flight side. He’s also been linked with a move to Celtic, a side who will be able to offer him European football next year.
