# Villa Set To Make An Offer For Barnsley Midfielder

It is no secret that Aston Villa have been keeping a keen eye on Barnsley midfielder and captain Conor Hourihane and, if [reports](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/01/10/por-bruce-casts-eye-over-barnsleys-hourihane/) are to be believed, they are about to firm up this interest by putting an offer on the table for him (after Bruce had one last look at him last weekend).

Hourihane, with his 5 goals and 12 assists in 23 appearances, has been one of the stand-out players in the Championship this season. The Irishman is out of contract in the summer and he is yet to agree new terms to prolong his stay at Oakwell.

Scottish clubs Celtic and Rangers have been said to be interested in acquiring his services, but Villa will be hoping that big wages and the remote possibility of playing in the Premier League next season will be enough to persuade the 25-year-old to put pen to paper. Furthermore, another advantage that Villa have over their rivals is that Bruce and Hourihane know each other from their time at Sunderland.

Bruce’s main objective this transfer window is to strengthen the midfield and it looks like he will soon be tabling an offer for the talented midfielder.
