# Aston Villa Complete Signing of Icelandic International

Birkir Bjarnason is the latest player to join Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa revolution as he completed his move from Swiss side FC Basel this afternoon for an undisclosed fee. However, what we do know is that he has signed a contract that will keep him at Villa Park for the next 3 and a half years.

The 28-year-old Icelandic midfielder played every minute of Iceland’s Euro 2016 campaign last summer, scoring his nation’s first ever goal at a major tournament when he netted against Portugal in the group stages.

He signed for Basel in the summer of 2015, and he has since gone on to score 14 goals in 41 appearances for the club. He has even played in all their Champions League matches this season.

In his first [interview](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2017/01/25/birkir-signs) as a Villa player, Bjarnason had this to say:

> “I’m delighted to have signed for Aston Villa. It’s a very big club. I am now looking forward to getting out on to the pitch and helping the team.”
