# Ashley Westwood leaves for Burnley

Ashley Westwood has left Aston Villa to sign for Premier League side Burnley, both clubs have now confirmed.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to the end of the 2019/20 season for the Clarets, ending a spell with Villa that has lasted over four seasons.

The midfielder joined Villa on the final day of the summer transfer window in 2012 from Crewe Alexandra. Since then he has made over 150 appearances overall for the side, scoring five league goals in that time.

It is thought that the deal will have cost Burnley around £5 million, more than double the reported £2 million Villa originally spent on Westwood.

Villa have been fairly busy so far this transfer window, bringing in the likes of James Bree and Conor Hourihane from Barnsley, 17-year-old Jacob Bedeau from Bury and Nottingham Forest star Henri Lansbury.

The midfielders signed this month have made Westwood expendable so his exit has not come as a shock.
