How Content Are You with Villa’s Transfer Activity

So another transfer window has come and gone and, as expected, it is has been a very busy one for Aston Villa.

After a pretty mediocre first half of the season, Villa came into this transfer window knowing that they drastically needed to improve their midfield if they are to stand a chance of earning a play-off place. To add to this, they need cover and right and left-back and a striker to replace the indisciplined McCormack.

With the addition of three talented midfielders, a promising young right-back, a fully-fledged international left-back and a proven Championship goalscorer, it is fair to say that Dr. Tony Xia and Steve Bruce made good use of the Transfer Window (we’ll just forget about yesterday’s game against Brentford for the time being).

Below is a complete rundown of the players that have signed for and left Villa over the January transfer period.

Players in:

1) Sam Johnstone, on the 5th January, signed from Manchester United on loan until the end of the season.
2) Henri Lansbury signed from Nottingham Forest for a reported £3 million on the 20th January.
3) James Bree signed from Barnsley for around £3 million on the 25th January.
4) Birkir Bjarnason signed from Basle in a deal believed to be somewhere between £1.75-2.5 million on the 25th January.
5) Conor Hourihane, on the 26th January, signed from Barnsley in a deal that is reported to have cost Villa £3 million.
6) Jacob Bedeau signed from Bury for around £600,000 on the 31st January.
7) Neil Taylor was part of a swap deal that involved Jordan Ayew. He also joined on the 31st January.
8) Scott Hogan signed from Brentford on the 31st January in a deal that will ultimately cost Villa £12 million – an initial £9 million and £3 million add-ons.

Players out:

1) Rudy Gestede joined Middlesbrough for £6 million on the 4th Janaury.
2) Aaron Tshibola was loaned out to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season on the 30th January
3) Ashley Westwood was sold to Burnley for £5 million on the 31st January.
4) Jordan Ayew joined Swansea on the 31st January in a deal that cost the Premier League side Neil Taylor and £5 million.
5) Ross McCormack was loaned out to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season on the 31st January.

Therefore, Villa have spent around £24 million this Transfer Window. However, due to the fees received for outgoing players, they only have a net spend of £8 million.
