These statistics reveal just how goal-shy Villa really are!

The Birmingham Mail have revealed some Villa statistics and, if you’re a Villa fan, they do not make for great reading.

As it stands, Aston Villa are currently the third lowest scorers in the Championship, which, to put it quite frankly, is embarrassing when one takes into account just how much they have spent on their squad over the past two transfer windows. Only Wigan and Rotherham, the two bottom teams, have scored fewer goals than Villa this season.

There are just six players in the current squad who have managed to score a goal for the Midlands side this season. These are Kodjia, Adomah, Grealish, Baker, Gardner, and Bacuna. The last three only have one goal each, but, having said that, it’s still more than most of the squad combined.

If you thought this was embarrassing, it gets even worse when we take into account Villa’s away form. In 16 away games in the league, Villa have only managed to find the net a paltry 8 times. In fact, in their last 8 away games, they have only found the back of the net twice, and we’re not giving away any prizes for guessing who scored both these goals. This is the lowest tally in the league.

Villa’s go to man for goals this season has been Kodjia, and his 10 league goals have contributed to 14 of Villa’s 36 points. I dread to think where we’d be currently sitting without the services of the Ivory Coast international. Incredibly, Villa have only managed to score more than one goal on seven occasions this season, and they have failed to score in a third of their matches.

The recent arrival of Scott Hogan from Brentford should dramatically increase Villa’s goal scoring prowess. The 24-year-old has already bagged himself 14 goals this season, and he has set himself the target of getting up to 30 goals for the season. If he can form a partnership with Kodjia, then Villa’s goalscoring woes will definitely end.

However, the strikers are not the only who have to take responsibility for this. Villa haven’t had a goalscoring midfielder for way too long. The center of the pitch has been bereft of creativity for many a season now, but the fans will be hoping that the arrival of Hourihane, Lansbury and Bjarnason will change this.

There is still quite a way to go before the season ends, and while time is running out for Villa to mount a significant attack on 6th place, all is not lost just yet!
