# Hutton’s contract extension divides opinions among fans

The [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alan-hutton-line-new-contract-12690764) has revealed that Alan Hutton is set to extend his stay at Villa Park after having activated a contract extension.

There was an appearance-based clause in his contract which has now been met, and this allows him to extend his current Aston Villa contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2018 season.

Bruce revealed the news today at his press conference ahead of Villa’s trip to Rotherham on Saturday afternoon.

Bruce said:

“What he sees is what you get. He has done very well and has triggered a point in his contract for another year. I am delighted for him.”

Hutton has had an eventful time as an Aston Villa player, falling in and out of favour ever since he was signed by Alex McCleish back in 2011. However, he has been playing very well as of late and has been one of the most regular players in Villa’s starting XI since Bruce arrived. Despite this, as the following reactionary tweets to this news shows, he still divides opinion among the Villa faithful.
