# Conor Hourihane gets international call up

According to a report in the [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-new-boy-gets-12736998), Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane has been named in the Republic of Ireland’s 39-man provisional squad for the upcoming games against Wales and Iceland in Dublin.

Hourihane, was named in Ireland’s 33-man provisional squad last September for the October World Cup Qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova, but he failed to make the final squad for both matches.

Hourihane has had a fantastic season so far, scoring 7 goals and providing 14 assists. Therefore, it really is no surprise that he has been included in the provisional squad once again. This time round, it is safe to say that there is a great chance of him making the final squad and earning his first cap.

Ireland will play Wales on Friday, March 24th in a World Cup Qualifier and will play Iceland in a friendly the following Tuesday.

Ireland currently sit top of Group D and have 6 qualifiers remaining – four of which are at home.
