Steve Bruce is desperate not to lose top scorer Jonathan Kodjia this summer, but, according to the Birmingham Mail, he has admitted that he cannot deny his striker if the big boys from the Premier League come knocking.
Last summer, Kodjia had a lot of interest from sides in the lower half of England’s first division , but Dr. Tony Xia spent the big bucks in order to entice him to Villa park.
His form this season, especially since Bruce took over in October, will have certainly attracted the attention of some of the teams in the top flight. However, Bruce has warned any potential suitors that they do not have to sell.
When asked whether he was worried about losing his talisman, who netted his 16th and 17th goals of an impressive season against Norwich City, Bruce replied:
“I’m sure we will do everything in our damnedest to keep hold of him but football is football. We will do our best to keep hold of him that’s for sure. How can he be denied if Chelsea come in? You can’t deny that, but he knows that he’s in a big football club and he’s well-liked by everybody concerned. We don’t want to talk about selling, we just want to add to the team.”
Kodjia is trying to become the first player to score 20 goals in a season since Peter Withe achieved that impressive milestone during the 1980/81 campaign.
