Aston Villa’s slight hopes off getting the 6th and final play-off position were all but extinguished at the weekend thanks to their 1-1 draw with Burton Albion and Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
These results leave Villa sitting in 11th place in the table, 11 points behind The Owls in 6th. With just 5 games remaining this season, although it is still mathematically possible, the Villa players and the fans know that their hopes of playing in the Premier League next season has all but been extinguished.
Therefore, all they can do now is build on their recent good form in order to take some confidence into next season’s Championship campaign. Next up for Villa is a home match against Reading on Saturday afternoon.
This will be a tricky match for Villa as Reading will be looking to cement their position in the top 6. Furthermore, they will desperately looking to bounce back from their humiliating 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Norwich City.
