Aston Villa’s 5 match unbeaten run came to a halt thanks to a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park at the hands of Reading.
Villa had won their previous 5 home matches without conceding a single goal, but that record came to an abrupt end just 6 minutes into the game as Reading pounced an awful piece of defending by Jordan Amavi.
Villa got themselves back on level terms in the 14th minute when James Chester thundered in a Conor Hourihane corner. However, that was to be the only joy that Villa fans were to have this Saturday afternoon.
Johnstone did very well to deny Grabban just before the interval, but he could do nothing to prevent Reading’s second just a minute into the second half. Grabban provided a perfect ball through to Mendes and the Frenchman put away his second of the game.
Scott Hogan had the chance to put Villa level, but he fluffed his lines. The game was then put to bed in the 79th minute when Grabban made no mistake from the penalty spot after Leandro Bacuna gave away a penalty.
This was a flat performance from Villa and this is reflected in our player ratings below.
