# The latest on Carles Gil’s future away from Villa Park

According to the [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-latest-carles-13193388), Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna are expected to step up their pursuit of permanently signing Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil in the coming weeks.

Former West Brom manager Pepe Mell, now manager at Deportivo, sees Gil as part of his plans for the coming season and is interested in keeping the little Spaniard at the club.

Gil has stated his desire to stay at Deportivo, who he made 24 appearances for last season as they avoided the drop from La Liga, and he is hoping that negotiations between the two clubs can be settled as quickly as possible. The 24-year-old would prefer it if a deal could be made before Villa players are due to report back to Boodymoor Heath next month.

Fellow La Liga side Real Betis are also reportedly in signing Gil, but at this stage, it looks like a return to Deportivo is more likely.
