# Villa midfielder undergoes groin surgery

The [Express and Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/aston-villa/2017/07/07/aston-villas-mile-jedinak-undergoes-groin-surgery/) have revealed that Mile Jedinak has not traveled to Villa’s pre-season training camp in Portugal as he has undergone surgery on his long-standing groin injury.

The influential Australian international was troubled by this injury for half of last season, and ended up missing more than a month’s worth of games between the middle of January and the middle of February.

He was then forced to miss Australia’s trip to the Confederations Cup in Russia when the injury flared up again during a World Cup Qualifying game at the beginning of June

The Sydney-born player, who was signed for £4 million by Roberto Di Matteo, was one of Villa’s best players last season, and the team sorely missed him when he had to sit out because of injury.

At the moment, it is unsure how long Jedinak will be out for and, as a result, Steve Bruce is currently aiming to bring in Glen Whelan so that he has other option in the centre of the park should Jedinak be unavailable for a significant period of time.
