# Villa player ratings: Watford (H)

Aston Villa faced Watford at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon in their final pre-season friendly. The game was arranged as a tribute for the late Graham Taylor, who managed both clubs, and he was remembered before the game with a well-received minute applause.

Villa started brightly, and Agbonlahor had a fantastic opportunity to open the scoring in just the 90th second when he found himself one-on-one with Gomes, but he hit the ball straight at the Watford keeper. Villa were by far the better side in the opening 15 minutes, but they were let off when Jerome Sinclair sliced the ball wide when in a promising position. As the half wore on, Watford came more into the game, but no one could break the deadlock, and the two teams went in at half-time all square.

Villa had the perfect opportunity to take the lead in the 53rd minute when Hutton won a penalty after he was fouled by Kaboul, but Lansbury, who has scored three penalties this pre-season, failed to convert it. Watford made a host of changes in the 55th minute, and they started to take control of the game after the hour mark. However, no team could make the breakthrough in the remaining 30 minutes, and the match finished in a scoreless draw.
