# Midfielder set to be out for 2-3 months

According to a report in the [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villas-jack-grealish-operation-13408313), Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is set to miss the first two to three months of the season after he picked up a freak injury in Villa’s final pre-season friendly against Watford on Saturday.

The midfielder was involved in a heavy clash with a Watford defender in the 25th minute and he was down for a number of minutes, seemingly winded. He was taken off the field, but was not able to return, and was sent to hospital as a precautionary measure.

However, once there, after a number of scans, it was found that his injury is more severe than first imagined. The elbow which he took to the stomach caused a bleed on his kidney, and he has had to undergo a mini-operation to fix it.

This unfortunate news comes just five days before Villa are due to start their championship season against Hull.
