Villa in talks to sign Gallagher

Aston Villa are in talks to sign Southampton striker Sam Gallagher, according to Sky Sports.

The report claims that Derby, Birmingham and Aston Villa are all interested in signing Gallgher before the end of the month.

Any move would be a loan for Gallagher, who signed a new long-term deal with Southampton earlier this summer.

This came after an impressive season at Blackburn in the Championship last season, netting double figures for the relegated side.

Gallagher is currently behind Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin and Shane Long in the pecking order, leaving him with a very slim chance of regular game-time this season.

Aston Villa could now look to offer Gallagher a route out to further develop his game before returning back to Southampton next season.

Although, they will have to stave off interest from Derby and bitter rivals Birmingham to secure the signing.

Southampton are willing to let him leave on a temporary basis.
