Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa are at the front of the line to snap up the Premier League midfielder before the end of the month.
It is claimed that Villa have held talks with Newcastle over a potential deal and that this has been rumbling on since last month.
Villa look set to beat off competition from fellow Championship clubs as they look to secure the signing.
Colback has been told he has no future at Newcastle, for this season at least, by Rafa Benitez – forcing him to look for a move away.
The former Sunderland man played a key role in Newcastle’s Championship winning campaign last year, with Villa hoping he will have the same effect on their side.
The report also claims that Colback is on between £40k and £50k-per-week at Newcastle at the moment.
