Aston Villa made it five games unbeaten with a 0-0 draw against Millwall at Villa Park, but it was a performance that would have had Steve Bruce tearing clumps of his hair out.
Villa were lackluster from the start and the only reason they managed to walk away with a point was because of some extraordinary goalkeeping by Sam Johnstone. His goal was bombarded throughout the match by a lively Millwall attack, but he was in no mood to be beaten.
This isn’t the first time this season that Johnstone has rescued a point for his side, and Bruce will be hoping that he can sign him on a permanent deal next year.
This point leaves Villa in fifth, four points above Leeds, who sit just outside the play-off places. However, in what is a very busy December, Bruce will know that his players will have to play a lot better than that if they want to still be in the play-off positions come the start of the new year.
