# Four things we learnt from Villa’s defeat to Derby

Aston Villa fell to a 2-0 defeat against Derby at Pride Park on Saturday afternoon.

Most of the players put in another sub-standard performance, especially Glenn Whelan and Josh Onomah, but Bruce must take some of the slack for thinking that playing Onomah up front against one of the better teams in the league was going to pay dividends. Bruce will probably be first to admit that he made a big error there.

Despite all their possession, Villa were toothless in attack and if it weren’t for some more fine goalkeeping from Sam Johnstone, Villa would have been on the end of a much heavier defeat.

This loss leaves Villa without a win in their last three matches and they now just have a one point cushion on Leeds who currently occupy 7th place. If they keep playing this poorly, come the end of the busy festive season, they will find themselves outside the top six and with a lot of work to do.
