Aston Villa earned a very valuable three points on Saturday afternoon thanks to a hard-thought 1-0 win over promotion rivals Middlesbrough.
If we are being perfectly honest, it wasn’t the best of performances from Steve Bruce’s side, but after a pretty poor December, Bruce, the players, and the fans won’t care too much about that.
These three points moved Villa up to 7th in the table, level on points and goal difference with Sheffield United in sixth.
Games come thick and fast at this time of year and next up for Villa is a tricky home match against Bristol City.
The Robin’s have been having a fantastic season, and they are currently in 3rd place, six points above Villa. They have only lost four games this season which can only be bettered by Wolves.
Therefore, Villa will know that they cannot afford to be sloppy if they wish to get anything out of this game.
Here is our predicted Villa XI for Monday’s match against Brighton.
GK: Sam Johnstone
One of the easiest decisions Bruce has to make when choosing his team.
RM: Ahmed Elmohamady
Put in a decent shift on Saturday and we reckon he will keep his place at right-back.
CB: James Chester
Has been a rock for Villa this season and will definitely be starting.
CB: Tommy Elphick
Put in a great performance against Middlesbrough which should see him rewarded with another start.
LM: Alan Hutton
Had another good game at left-back and we reckon Bruce will rest Taylor once more.
RM: Robert Snodgrass
One of the best right midfielder Villa have had for a while, so it would be surprising to see him left out.
CM: Mile Jedinak
Looks a lot better in this position than Whelan, so he should be picked ahead of him.
CM: Conor Hourihane
One of Villa’s most creative players and Bruce will be hoping he can help break down one of the in form teams in the league.
CM: Jack Grealish
Has been very lively since he came back into the team and we are sure that he start once again.
LM: Albert Adomah
Villa’s star of the season so far and there’s no way he will be dropped.
ST: Scott Hogan
Davis was sick on Saturday, so he might not be fit for Monday’s game either. If so, Hogan will probably start.
