Aston Villa made it six wins from six thanks to a 3-2 victory over Burton Albion at Villa Park. This is the first time since 1990 that Villa have managed such a long winning streak.
Everyone expected Villa to walk away with this game, but credit must go to the Brewers, who sit at the bottom of the table, for making a game of it. Better teams have come to Villa Park this season and have been comfortably played off the park.
Despite this win, Villa still sit in third place, one point behind Derby, due to the fact that the Rams ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at home to Brentford.
Next up for Villa is a home match against local rivals Birmingham and Villa fans will accept nothing else than 7 wins from the last 7 games.
Here are our Villa player ratings for today’s win over Burton Albion:
GK: Sam Johnstone - 6
Made a few decent stops, but probably could have done better for Burton’s second goal.
RB: Ahmed Elmohamady - 5
Was caught out on quite a few occasions and scored an own goal to top it off.
CB: James Chester - 6.5
Was mostly solid at the back, but him and Terry will be disappointed with conceding two goals.
CB: John Terry - 6.5
Terry rarely lets his side down and today was no different. This was another solid display.
LB: Alan Hutton - 6.5
This was another solid performance from Hutton at left-back. He got forward as often as he could and helped Adomah out a lot.
RM: Robert Snodgrass - 8
Snodgrass had a great January and he started February in the same fashion. He was heavily involved for both goals.
CM: Birkir Bjarnason - 7
The Icelandic international seems to be flourishing in this position as he provided Terry and Chester with vital cover.
CM: Conor Hourihane - 6
Linked up well with Snodgrass and Grealish, but still fell a long way short of his best.
CM: Jack Grealish - 8
Grealish caused Burton’s defence issues throughout the match and he was rewarded with his first goal of the season.
RM: Albert Adomah - 8.5
Adomah’s form had dropped a bit in recent weeks, but he was back to his best today. He provided the assist for the first goal and scored his 13th goal of the season.
ST: Scott Hogan - 7.5
Scored his 5th goal in as many games. Bruce will be pleased at how well he held off Burton’s big defenders and ran the channels.
