Aston Villa made it an impressive seven wins from their last seven matches thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over local rivals Birmingham on Sunday afternoon. The last time that Villa managed to win seven matches on the bounce was way back in 1990.
This win, coupled with Derby’s draw again Norwich City on Saturday and their loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening, moved Villa up to second in the table, one point above the Rams in third and Cardiff City in fourth.
On Saturday afternoon, Villa have the chance to increase their grip on second place when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage. However, this will certainly be no easy task as Fulham have had a fine season themselves and are sitting relatively comfortably in fifth place – just seven points behind Villa.
