Villa’s impressive run of seven wins from seven matches came to a disappointing halt on Saturday afternoon after they were beaten by promotion rivals Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

The run had to come to an end at some stage, but Bruce and his players will be disappointed about how it ended. They were second best all over the field on Saturday, and they couldn’t have really complained if they had left West London with a heavier defeat.

This result, coupled with Cardiff’s win over Middlesbrough, meant that Villa dropped to third in the table, but they have an immediate chance to return to the final automatic promotion spot when they take on Preston at Villa Park on Tuesday evening.

However, it looks highly likely that they will have to do it without the help of Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah, who are both nursing injuries. This is a big blow for the club as both these players have been in fantastic form recently and were clearly missed on Saturday.

As a result of these injuries, we reckon Bruce might go with a different formation for Tuesday’s match.
