With just ten games remaining, we have well and truly reached the business end of the season. Here, I take a look at Villa’s remaining fixtures and predict how many points they’ll have come the 6th May.

QPR (H) – Tuesday 13th March: QPR have had a pretty poor season and have one of the worst defensive records in the league (only Sunderland, Burton, Birmingham, Hull, and Bolton have conceded more) Therefore, I cannot really see them troubling Villa at Villa Park.

Verdict: 3 points for Villa.

Bolton (A) – Saturday 17th March: Bolton are only 6 points above the relegation zone so will be fighting for their lives, but I just don’t think they have the quality to turn over a confident Villa side. Their defense leaves much to be desired too.

Verdict: 3 points Villa.

Hull (A) – Saturday 31st March: It’s safe to say that Hull have had a season to forget. They have had no problem scoring goals this season, but their defence has desperately let them down. Against an in form Villa, not many would bet on Hull to come out victorious.

Verdict: 3 points for Villa.

Reading (H) – Tuesday 3rd April: Reading finished 3rd last season, but have only won eight games the whole season. I really can’t see them adding to that tally when they take on Villa at Villa park.

Verdict: 3 points Villa.

Norwich (A) – Saturday 7th April: Norwich started off the season very well, but they have drastically declined since. They now sit in 14th place with 48 points from 36 games. Unless Villa have an off day, would you place any money on a home win? I know I wouldn’t.

Verdict: 3 points Villa.

Cardiff (H) – Tuesday 10th April: This could be the game that goes a long way to determining where Villa finish in the table. Arguably, Cardiff have the slightly more difficult schedule, so any positive result here could be great for Villa.

Verdict: 1 point Villa

Leeds (H) – Saturday 13th April: Leeds got off to a flyer, but they just cannot win a game at the moment. By the time they face Villa at Villa Park, they’ll have nothing to play for.

Verdict: 3 points Villa

Ipswich (A) – Saturday 21st April: Ipswich, like Leeds, will likely have little to play for when these two sides meet with two games remaining. Will they be up for a match against promotion-chasing Villa? I doubt it.

Verdict: 3 points Villa

Derby (H) – Saturday 28th April: Derby are one of the better teams in the league and if Villa don’t play to their full potential, they’ll be punished. However, I expect Villa to get a positive result.

Verdict: 1 point Villa

Millwall (H) – Sunday 6th May: Millwall have had a much better season than many expected and could well finish in the top half of the table. Their home form is what has helped them move up the table, but that shouldn’t be enough to see them deny Villa.

Verdict: 3 points Villa

Conclusion

If all this plays out how I have predicted (hopefully I haven’t jinxed us), then Villa will end the season on 95 points. Will it be enough to claim an automatic promotion spot? We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s going to be one hell of a finish!
