If Aston Villa’s hopes of automatic promotion weren’t over before, they almost certainly are now thanks to their disappointing 0-0 draw away to Hull at the KCOM Stadium.
Villa were slightly the better team on the day, but they just could not find a way past a stubborn Hull defence, well marshalled by the excellent Michael Dawson.
Things could have turned out very differently had Albert Adomah converted a fantastic early cross from Snodgrass, but the Ghanaian could only put this guilt-edged opportunity over the bar.
This draw leaves Villa sitting in 4th place, 9 points behind Cardiff in second and 8 points above Bristol City in seventh. With only 7 games left to play, it would take a miracle for Villa to finish in an automatic promotion place.
Next up for Villa is a home match against Reading, who currently sit just five points above the relegation zone, on Tuesday evening. Fail to win this one, and the fans might start getting on their backs.
