Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw at home to Derby, coupled with Cardiff City’s win against Hull, means that Villa’s slim chances of automatic promotion are over.
The home side started off the brighter of the two sides, but they found themselves a goal down in the 14th minute, when ex-Villa player Weimann stole the ball off Taylor in the box and squared for Jerome to slam home into the bottom left corner.
This spurred Villa on, but due to a combination of very good Derby defence, especially from ex-Villa player Davis, and bad luck, they were unable to grab the equalizer until the 84th minute.
Grealish took a short corner, played it to Hourihane, who had his subsequent shot saved. The ball fell to Terry in the box, and he calmly passed it sideways for Grabban to poke home from 3 yards out.
Defeat would have been extremely harsh on Bruce’s side as they dominated possession and had three times as many shots as their opponents.
Here are our Villa player ratings for yesterday’s draw against Derby.
