# Villa player ratings: Brentford (H)

Aston Villa kept their unbeaten start to the season intact thanks to Jonathan Kodjia’s 95th minute equaliser.

Villa were poor for the most part against a 10 man Ipswich on Saturday, but they played with verve and swagger tonight, and it would have been very harsh on Bruce’s men if Brentford walked away from Villa Park with all three points.

Villa started off as the better team, but it was Brentford who took the lead against the run of play in the 23rd minute when Maupay slammed the ball home from 12 yards out after some neat build-up play.

Villa got a deserved equalizer in the 39th minute when Kodjia, after some fine defensive play from McGinn, turned his defender inside out, drove into the box, and unleashed a fierce shot into the back of the net.

For most of the second half, it looked like Villa would score next, but once again, Brentford took the lead in the 82nd minute when Maupay, who should have been sent off for a blatant stamp on McGinn in the first half, turned home from close range.

With seconds remaining, it looked like Villa were going to suffer their first defeat of the season, but Kodjia out jumped his defenders and looped a header over Bentley in the Brentford goal to send the Villa fans into raptures.

Here are our player ratings for tonight’s draw against Brentford:
