A Jonathan Kodjia brace against Brentford on Tuesday night ensured that Villa kept their unbeaten start to the season intact.
Steve Bruce’s men were the better team for the majority of the game, and it would have been extremely harsh on them if they walked away with nothing. What would have made it harsher is the fact that Maupay should have been sent off for a clear stamp on McGinn long before he scored Brentford’s second goal.
Against a 10 man Ipswich on Saturday, Villa were stodgy and looked devoid of ideas, but yesterday night they played with a swagger that was last seen at Villa Park on the 10th March when Wolves were put to the sword. The only thing that was missing was the clinical finishing and a tiny bit of luck.
Here are four things that we learnt from yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Brentford at Villa Park.
