# Villa player ratings: Burton Albion (A)

Aston Villa’s unbeaten start to the season came to an embarrassing halt as they were knocked out of the Carabao cup thanks to a 1-0 defeat to League One side Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Over the last four to five years, Villa fans have had to sit and endure some pretty terrible displays, but they will be extremely hard pushed to remember a performance that was as turgid and insipid as this.

As expected, Bruce made a lot of changes to the team that drew with Reading at the weekend and the fringe players failed to grab their chance to impress in spectacular fashion.

Villa had 60% of the possession, but in 94 minutes they only managed three shots on goal, with the first one coming in the 41st minute. When that occurred, the Villa fans burst into mock applause.

They were awarded a late penalty for the chance to take the game into a penalty shootout, but Albert Adomah’s effort, just like his performance over the last 6 months was poor.

To be quite honest, it wouldn’t have been just if Bruce’s men had forced penalties and made it through to the next round. They were just that poor tonight and deserved nothing.

Here are our Villa ratings for tonight’s “performance” against Burton Albion:
