# Potential Collins move dependent on Ipswich trial

A potential move for Aston Villa to sign James Collins on a free transfer is reportedly being held up by a trial at Ipswich Town.

[The Daily Star reports](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/728926/Aston-Villa-news-James-Collins-latest-Steve-Bruce-offer-Ipswich-trial?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+daily-star-football+%28Daily+Star+%3A%3A+Football+Feed%29) that the former West Ham defender is currently training with the Championship side as he ponders his next move.

Collins is reportedly keeping his options open but is waiting to see if Steve Bruce will make a move for him before deciding on his future.

The former Welsh international has reportedly been earmarked by Villa as a potential alternative to John Terry, should the club fail to re-sign the ex-Chelsea defender.

Terry has been heavily linked with a move back to Villa Park throughout the summer, but they have been forced to wait and see if a deal to join Spartak Moscow falls through.

Bruce is said to be looking in the free agent market, with Collins and ex-Leicester City defender Robert Huth being linked with moves.
