# Terry hints at retirement despite Villa interest

Ex-Chelsea and Aston Villa defender John Terry has hinted that his immediate future may not be a role on the pitch.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official club app, the Fifth Stand, [as reported by the Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-john-terry-future-15162010), Terry hinted that he may snub a return to Villa in order to focus on his coaching career.

> Still undecided what I’m doing next. My end game is to be a manager and that’s what I’m working towards with the younger boys here.

The defender is yet to confirm his next move after rejecting a deal to join Spartak Moscow in Russia.

Derby County and Aston Villa were both also in the running, but Frank Lampard has [confirmed](https://readastonvilla.com/2018/09/17/lampard-reveals-why-he-has-not-signed-villa-target-john-terry/) that he will not be signing the defender anytime soon due to wage restrictions.

Terry has never hidden his intention to go into coaching and he has been working with the Chelsea academy during the early parts of the season, both to keep fit and help towards a future role.

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has also talked up the chances of Terry joining the Blues in a coaching capacity by admitting that he’d love to work with the defender.
