Aston Villa finally got back to winning ways in the Championship thanks to a 2-0 win against Rotherham United at Villa Park.
Steve Bruce’s men started the game in a positive fashion and could have gone ahead early on, but Marek Rodak in the Millers’ goal thwarted Jonathan Kodjia and Conor Hourihane.
Many probably thought that Paul Warne would set his team out to defend and hope to sneak a point, but this wasn’t the case. The Millers had come to play and they managed to cause a couple of nervy moments for the 25,000 Villa fans inside the stadium.
Villa needed a goal to help them settle down a bit and they finally got one in the 27th minute when Tammy Abraham converted a neat pass from Kodjia.
Bruce probably thought that the goal would open the flood gates, but Rotherham, to their credit, were resolute in defence and not giving anything away easily.
Villa put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute when Yannick Bolasie’s diving header found the net. This win will help ease the pressure that was mounting on Bruce’s shoulders.
