Some of the pressure that was mounting on Steve Bruce’s shoulders was lifted on Tuesday evening thanks to a 2-0 win against Rotherham at Villa Park.
Bruce’s side had not won any of their previous five games and a loss against newly-promoted Rotherham would surely have put the Villa boss at a high risk of being fired.
However, goals from Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie ensured that Villa picked up three very vital points.
Next up for Villa is a home match against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon. The Owls have had a decent start to the season and currently sit just two points below Villa.
If Bruce’s men can pick up another three points on Saturday, they could end the weekend, if other results go their way, just one point outside the automatic promotion spots. Crisis? What crisis?
