James Chester will miss Saturday’s match against Millwall as he decided against appealing the red card that he picked up in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Preston.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Kevin MacDonald, who will take over as coach until the owners have decided on a permanent replacement for Steve Bruce, said that Chester refused to appeal it as he could have been given a longer suspension.
This will be very frustrating for Villa fans as it was an extremely harsh red card. In fact, in his final post-match interview as Villa manager, Bruce declared that the decision to send off Chester was “a disgrace.”
Not many fans agreed with much that Bruce said or did during his final weeks in charge, but none would have disagreed with him here. It was even debatable as to whether it was a penalty or not.
This will be the first league game that Chester has missed since he joined from Hull back in August 2016.
