# Terry not coming out of retirement

New Aston Villa assistant John Terry says he is not thinking about the prospect of coming out of retirement.

[Speaking after his unveiling at the club, as reported by BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45873530), Terry admitted that it is time for him to start working towards becoming a manager himself one day.

> As far as playing is concerned, that is done – that is my previous life. This is a new chapter for me and something I am really looking forward to.

There had been suggestions that now he has returned to the club, he could come out of retirement with Villa struggling defensively this season.

Terry officially announced his retirement from the playing side of the game in preparation to make the move to Villa.

The former Chelsea defender was being heavily linked with a move back to the club in some capacity when Steve Bruce was sacked.

He was linked with assistant roles under both Rui Faria and Thierry Henry but will now work closely with Dean Smith at Villa Park.
