# Gabby Agbonlahor told Villa he would play for nothing

Gabby Agbonlahor reportedly told Aston Villa that he would play for nothing prior to the club’s takeover.

[The Press Association’s Nick Mashiter reports](https://twitter.com/nickmashiter/status/1052920018982379527) that the striker remains a free agent and is not thinking about hanging up his boots just yet.

The former Villa man was linked with a dramatic return to the club over the summer after being released at the end of his contract.

Agbonlahor saw his Villa career go downhill during the final years of his time at the club, but has been keen to put things right with a dramatic return.

Prior to the club’s takeover when Villa looked like they were going to be working on a very small budget, Agbonlahor was linked with a free transfer back to the club to give then manager Steve Bruce another option in the final third.

However, there were still concerns over the player’s wage demands, but clearly, the striker was willing to play for the club again even if it meant he was not taking home a wage.
