Another international break is over and up next for Villa is a huge match against Birmingham City at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues had been on a fine run of form, and at one stage they were sitting five points above Villa in the table. However, thanks to a chastening 3-1 defeat against Derby and a 3-3 draw at home to Hull, Dean Smith’s men, who have won their last two matches against Bolton (2-0) and Derby (0-3), have managed to draw level.
Not only will a win on Sunday ensure bragging rights until the two teams meet again on Sunday 10th March, but the victors, if other results are kind to them, could see themselves move to within a point of a play-off berth.
We know that there are still another 30 games to play after this one, but no one wants to be playing catch up in such a demanding league.
