Aston Villa came from behind twice against Stoke City to ensure that they remain unbeaten at Villa Park under Dean Smith.

The first half is one that will not last long in the memories of either set of fans as both teams let themselves down with some poor shots and even worse crosses – Conor Hourihane being one of the main culprits for the home side.

However, thankfully, the second was more entertaining, and the away side found themselves ahead with the first meaningful attack of the half – James McClean got to the byline, cut it back into the box, and Joe Allen nipped in ahead of John Mcginn and slammed the ball home.

This woke Villa up and they started to look more dangerous, but they weren’t able to draw level until 26 minutes later – Kodjia, who hadn’t been on the field long, burst into the box and was subsequently brought down. The ref awarded a penalty, and Tammy Abraham slotted his 12th goal of the season.

Villa were only level for five minutes though as Ahmed Elmohamady gave away a penalty in the 78th minute when he fouled McClean. Time was running out for Smith’s men, but Kodjia ensured that they at least left Villa Park with a point when he headed home a neat cross by Yannick Bolasie.
