This weekend sees the return of the FA Cup as Villa take on Swansea at Villa Park.
Dean Smith, due to injuries, has not really been able to alternate his players over the busy Christmas period, meaning some have played the best part of four games over the last eight days or so and are visibly fatigued.
Therefore, he will have little choice but to make a number of changes to his starting XI this weekend, in order to ensure that those who seem most tired, such as Conor Hourihane and Alan Hutton, are well-rested for the game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday 12th.
Villa’s main aim this season is obviously promotion back to the Premier League, so not many fans will blame Smith if he fields a somewhat weakened team on Saturday and loses.
In fact, if we’re being honest, the last thing Villa need this season is a lengthy cup run.
