# Villa player ratings: Ipswich (H)

Aston Villa got their first win of 2019 thanks to a 2-1 win over Ipswich at Villa Park.

Dean Smith’s men got off to a very bright start and found themselves ahead with just 6 minutes on the clock when Tammy Abraham notched his 18th goal of the season after he turned home a tasty Conor Hourihane free-kick.

The home side started applying more pressure in hope of killing the game off before half-time, but some poor finishing meant that they went in at the break with just the one goal lead, when they had played well enough to have scored at least two or three.

Villa started the second-half where they left off and they finally got the second goal that their play deserved when Abraham converted from the penalty spot after John McGinn was fouled in the area.

With a two goal lead and just 15 minutes left on the clock, many Villa fans would have been expecting a comfortable end to the game. However, when Freddie Sears scored a screamer from 25 yards out, the nerves started to creep in.

Villa managed to hold on to their lead though and picked up a much needed three points.

Here are our Villa player ratings for today’s match against Ipswich.
