# Villa target in talks to extend Brentford contract

Aston Villa target Yoann Barbet has revealed he is in talks with Brentford to extend his deal at Griffin Park, [the Birmingham Mail report, via football.london.](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/weve-been-talking-aston-villa-15992255)

Barbet is highly thought of by former Bees boss Dean Smith, the defender has made over 100 appearances for the club following his move from Ligue 2 side Chamois Niortais over three years ago.

Smith was said to be interested in the Frenchman during the January transfer window, and the 25-year-old had been linked with a move to Villa Park once again with his current deal with Brentford set to expire this summer.

Barbet has revealed that talks over a new contract with the Bees have begun, however, and the defender expects his future to be resolved within the “next few weeks.”

> We talk with the club but we don’t know yet. We’ve been talking but there is nothing at the moment. So we will see in the next few weeks.
