The league has ended and Norwich and Sheffield United know that they will be playing against some of the best players in the world next season.
On the other hand, Rotherham, Bolton and Ipswich are destined for League One, while 15 other teams have consigned themselves to another arduous season in the Championship.
However, one of Villa, West Brom, Derby, or Leeds still has a chance of ending their season on a high.
Dean Smith’s men will play two legs against local rivals West Brom while Leeds United will battle it out with Derby for a place in the play-off final.
Villa lost 2-1 to Norwich last Sunday, but Smith will have been pretty pleased with what he saw, as his second string team gave the league winners a very good game.
More importantly, he was able to rest five of his key men for Saturday’s first leg at Villa Park.
Here is our predicted Villa XI for Saturday’s game against West Brom:
GK: Jed Steer
Steer has been fantastic since he stepped in for Kalinic and he will definitely be starting on Saturday afternoon.
RB: Ahmed Elmohamady
Elmohamady sat out of the final league game against Norwich so that Hutton could get one final game. He will definitely return this weekend.
CB: Tyrone Mings
Mings has been fantastic for Villa and should be well-rested and ready to go on Saturday after his weekend off last week.
CB: Axel Tuanzebe
Tuanzebe has formed a great partnership with Mings, so we expect to see him start against West Brom on Saturday.
LB: Neil Taylor
Taylor has been playing very well at left-back, so we reckon he will start once again at the weekend.
RM: Andre Green
Green played well against Norwich, so we reckon that will see him start on Saturday ahead of Adomah.
CM: Glenn Whelan
Smith will start Whelan to ensure that Villa have someone there to mop up should the need arise.
CM: John McGinn
Didn’t play against Norwich as one yellow would have ruled him out for the whole of the play-offs. However, with the yellows wiped out now, McGinn will slot back into his starting position.
CM: Jack Grealish
Grealish was rested on Sunday as there was no need to risk him picking up an injury. He will definitely be starting on Saturday afternoon though.
LM: Anwar El Ghazi
El Ghazi was rested for the game against Norwich, but he will slot right back in on the left-wing this Saturday.
ST: Tammy Abraham
Abraham is fit again so there’s no way that Smith will leave him out. We expect him to come straight back into the starting XI at the expense of Kodjia.
