# “Grealish wouldn’t improve Tottenham” says former Spurs midfielder

Former Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton believes Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish would not improve his former side, should Spurs pursue a move for the midfielder once again this summer.

Grealish has been instrumental for Villa in their run to the play-off final this season, and appeared to commit his long-term future to the club in September last year by signing a new five-year deal, after interest from Tottenham.

Anderton, however, believes Grealish would become a “squad player” rather than a regular starter for Spurs, should the Premier League side reignite their interest in the 23-year-old, [the Birmingham Mail report, via SportingBet](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/spurs-transfers-grealish-aston-villa-16331803).

> Jack Grealish wouldn’t improve Tottenham’s team and they’ve got better players in his position already. We’ve seen from his performances for Aston Villa this season that he’s a very talented player but he isn’t good enough to walk straight into their starting team. Grealish certainly has the potential to develop into a top, top player and he would fit the Spurs ethos, but if he joins it would very much be as a squad player.

Grealish will lead his Villa side out at Wembley on Monday when they face Derby County in the play-off final.
