# Matt Targett Q&A: What to expect from the incoming Villa signing

Aston Villa are close to wrapping up the signing of Southampton defender Matt Targett.

Dean Smith looks set to add the left-back to his squad in a deal [believed](https://readastonvilla.com/2019/06/29/villa-agree-17m-deal-for-matt-targett/) to be worth an initial £14 million fee, which could reach £17 million if additional bonuses are achieved.

The 23-year-old has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and looks likely to displace Neil Taylor in the Villa starting line-up.

So, what can be expected of the incoming signing? I spoke to [Luke Osman](https://twitter.com/LukeOsmanRS) from [Read Southampton](https://readsouthampton.com/) to gain an insight into Matt Targett and what he can offer.

Take a look below at what Luke had to say; some of the talking points include his early potential, why he never nailed down a place in the Saints’ starting line-up and just whether or not this is a good deal for Villa.

Get to know Targett further with some insight from the Southampton camp!
