Tom Heaton: The £8m man who can keep Aston Villa in the Premier League

Aston Villa look set to continue their summer spending with an £8 million deal to sign Tom Heaton.

While no deal has been officially confirmed by either club as of yet, the reliable John Percy has reported that a deal is close.

Villa have spent big this summer but amidst all the lavishing spending, Heaton’s move to Villa Park could prove to be the best value.

Dean Smith was keen to add a new first-choice goalkeeper to his ranks during the transfer window in preparation for the new Premier League campaign and they don’t come more experienced than Heaton himself.

An England international with Premier League experience under his belt, his arrival will be a massive boost to the Villa squad.

Jed Steer was a fantastic servant to Villa towards the end of last season but the difference in quality between the two is sizeable.

Many feel Heaton was unlucky to fall out of favour at Burnley in the first place. A nasty injury saw Nick Pope rise to prominence and Heaton is a player that should be playing regularly in the Premier League.

At a time where even Villa are among the teams splashing the cash during the summer market, a deal to sign Heaton for a modest £8 million is fantastic business and could be one that keeps the club in the top flight.
