McGinn, who joined the club last season from Hibernian, was instrumental in Villa’s promotion to the Premier League, and had attracted interest over the summer.
Some Aston Villa fans reacted to the news on Twitter, with almost everyone being delighted at the news.
Lee Lloyd thinks that this news is even better than any announcement of a new signing at the club.

Sam was delighted with the news, with McGinn now contracted at Villa for another five years.

Jonny Gould reckons that this is the best bit of business Villa have done all summer, despite Dean Smith bringing in some quality signings.
Twitter: #avfc sign up McGinn for five more years. We love Jack, we love Tyrone – but perhaps this is our signing of the summer. #utv (@jonnygould)
However, Jack believes this announcement may be there to soften the blow that Villa won’t be bringing in anyone on deadline day.
Twitter: Announcing McGinn new contract to soften the blow of no new arrivals today makes sense to me… #avfc (@JackWillis54)
Jack Grealish was also on hand to congratulate his teammate… with an image that could do with some context!

This is Aston Villa’s most important signing of the window, hands down.
Along with Norwich’s signing of Teemu Pukki on a free transfer, John McGinn was one of the best bargains in the Championship last season, in a division that has many teams break the bank to gain promotion.
Tying the midfielder down to a new deal is massive for Villa, especially with the reported interest from Manchester United over the summer.
Villa reportedly asked for £50 million for McGinn, and it’s easy to see why based off his performances last season.
Tying him down to a new contract was so important, and it is great to see Villa making sure they keep their prized assets.
