Villa player ratings: Everton (H)

Aston Villa got their first three points of the season thanks to a 2-0 win over Everton at Villa Park.

The away side got off to the better start and were applying early pressure on Dean Smith’s men, but they weathered the storm and started to dominate the midfield.

Villa opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Jota played a lovely through ball to Wesley Moraes, who calmly slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford for what will hopefully be his first of many Premier League goals.

Everton had two glorious chances in the second half to equalise, but Moise Kean saw his shot hit the post and Theo Walcott somehow failed to hit the target from about 7 yards out.

The home side sealed the win with virtually the last kick of the game when Anwar El Ghazi, who came on as a late substitute, collected a John McGinn pass and slid the ball under Pickford from 6 yards out.
