Reason revealed for Villa ending chase of Cahill – Should they have listened?

Aston Villa reportedly ignored advice from John Terry over the summer after they chose to axe their pursuit of ex-Chelsea man Gary Cahill.

Cahill, who eventually moved to Crystal Palace, was reportedly a Villa target over the summer.

However, the club chose to look elsewhere, signing Tyrone Mings and Bjorn Engels at centre back.

Villa chose to look for younger players instead of going for Cahill, despite John Terry recommending the defender.

Cahill would have certainly been a decent addition to Villa, but his age is a big concern.

Young squads are seemingly the way to go now, and Villa were cautious to not have a too old squad this season.

Deciding to sign younger players make more sense, meaning that VIlla were right to not sign Cahill.

At best, they’d get two good seasons out of him before he retired, meaning it made more sense to go for Engels and Mings.
