Aston Villa pulled plug on deal for Mbaye Diagne – But should they have?

Aston Villa reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign Galatarsay striker Mbaye Diagne over the summer, after Dean Smith felt the asking price for the forward was too high.

Villa signed Wesley from Club Brugge, but reportedly still want to sign a striker in January.

However, they were linked with the 30-goal-striker Diagne, who would eventually replace Wesley at Club Brugge this summer.

According to the Birmingham Mail, quoting Het Belang van Limburg, Villa pulled out of a deal to sign Diagne due to Galatasaray’s asking price of €15 million.

Villa obviously signed Wesley over the summer, but many have suggested they should sign another forward this January.

Diagne was always a risk however, with the Turkish league being at a much lower level than the Premier League.

Many strikers have performed there, but have failed in England, meaning it would have been a big risk despite his 30 goal haul.
